what does one do when one steps away from the limelight that is their own life

the one that shone on them and let them feel vital

alive

necessary it has been

to step away sure yet

no one has come to see where you’ve gone

no one stands by the sideline waiting for you to return

(or can you see now, no one that came before, but perhaps there on the horizon new faces?)

the bulb that shone illuminating the place you stood has burned out and gone dark

(dark, or really if you let yourself loosen, only asked for changing?)

there is no place held for you

yet you gave it up

you stepped away

the waves came in and filled the space you help part

no evidence of your footprints in the sand

(as if Egyptian charioteers your ego wants to consternate)

what when now as you try to find your way in the dark?

(you created for yourself?)

O infinite keep this foolish world at bay do

not let me pine for something that is meant to tide deeply into the darkness under the waves and leave me here sinking into the sand and salted surf of my own uprooting
