opening the way to something new

I step out to do what is routine a walk

downtown around the neighborhood across the parks

only my feet know where we will step today and I simply follow

along for this morning bit and yet

when the toes turn and take me back through the door

to the bodies waking now late I say to begin their steps into this

through the door to take up broom or brush

fluff a weekend of delight and neglect back into place

smiling as I do because this is the love I do

smiling as I do at these faces and the places set into their lives now as

they’ve let their feet take them into this place

alongside me

I get a better sense

I understand something new

I take up a thought, turn it over in my hand like a rock tossed smooth and grey among the leaves

we all blossom when we least expect it
