Merton says, and therefore I can see

staring at the depressed-earth footing of my own ladder seeing angels going up and down.
Yet unlike Merton I say no.
God is not at the top.
God is everywhere in between, as well as right here,
at the hood of my eyes as I peer at the earth-depressed footings
foundation of my own Jacob.
