it is all coming back to me now
she lay across the branch 15 feet high hung wide
over the driveway like a sloth like a koala like a comfortablely slung bouquet of stems and feathers a nest tucked into the bow protected unseen
the world has hurried on
her feet stumbling forward to the song of success a rhythm her heels tap out in shoes too tight
callousing against the untimely dance
the earth does not demand this the branch sings her back into herself despite the decades of longing
it has never stopped believing and humming the gentle melody that one day it knows will find her back in it’s bows
this morning with hand to heart that girl that child that sun-bleached-blond-skinned-kneed-touch of flesh again bark returned I held her as if okay alright all right
and it made all the difference
