the plateau of my ordinariness stands upon me
I am ready to lead the useless life
too busy to turn an ear to the left or an eye to the right
those years of success tumbling behind me
an avalanche of completions
I stumbled into the future mine
only to find I’d left along the roadside
the pieces I’d meant to be carrying
that back of mine thinking this was my job
all along it says to me a place I was graced to stand
no carrying necessary in this dirt and gravel world
I hold on in hopes there is time to turn again
the ear to the left the eye to the right
and glimpse the reverberations of
this joy filled existence
