hem of his robe series
Where God overflows~
It took just one simple touch for a miracle to occur. Just that; one simple touch.
In this series I explore simplicity in a stroke as it becomes this sublime.
Materials:
Board,Venetian plaster,Tar paint,Rainfall,Distressed/hand dyed textiles,Found papers,Encaustic
With these basic materials as the foundation of exploration, work comes together to answer to a fundamental question of creation that an artist pursues: That of making real, something from nothing; to develop an experience where none previously existed; and here specifically-to impact significantly with the most insignificant ingredients.
In some, only plaster, carving and beeswax.
In others, the added serendipity of Pacific Northwest climate in the form of precipitation-modeled plaster before rusted or distressed materials and beeswax.
And still more with messages of simplicity in the lack of any recognition of the artists’ hand; just the slip of Venetian plaster, sanded smooth of any application markings, followed by deep, rich tar paint hand mixed for proper color and consistency by the artist before the tangible delight of a finish of beeswax.
In the end all finished with this encaustic: Pulled together, sealed and secure, under this elemental, protective layer.
Sublime simplicity.
